Flood Relief And Hygiene Kit Distribution In Assam
Floods devastate Assam !
Multiple cyclonic circulation has brought thunderstorms and intense rainfall in Assam particularly in the northeast and adjoining areas. This has resulted in heavy floods inundating villages and hectares of crops, damaging roads, bridges, other infrastructure on a devastating scale and displacing thousands of people.
Impact and Casualties
Lives Lost: >170 lives lost.
People Affected: Over 7 lakhs people have been impacted across 12 districts.
Infrastructure: Strong river currents have triggered riverbank erosion, while widespread damage has been caused to roads, bridges, and other infrastructure.
Agriculture: Over 25,000 hectares of cropland have been submerged under water.
Livestock: The floods have also affected over a lakh of animals.

The need is to respond on urgent basis. Sewa International’s efforts will be to contain the human crisis through focusing on delivering the much needed relief support to the most affected and displaced population. The population is facing loss of their homes, their crops and struggling for shelter, food and other basic needs for survival. Sewa International experienced and geared against disasters will reach out through the following relief plan.​​

Project Objective:
To provide timely, need-based humanitarian assistance and essential support to disasteraffected communities, addressing urgent needs of ration and health and hygiene requirements, while strengthening resilience and promoting early recovery.
Districts and Villages Proposed for Intervention
The following districts are proposed for flood relief support and are among the most impacted, experiencing displacement, river flooding, road disruptions, and agricultural and other losses.

Proposed Relief Activities
The calamity has led to large-scale devastation of houses and displacement of a large section of the local population who have been forced to seek survival in relief and shelter camps. Apart from adverse weather conditions, a concentrated group of the population has been forced to stay in limited spaces of relief camps, posing hygiene challenges, mosquito menace etc., with Sanitary Pads required for adolescent girls and women and cleaning material required to keep the residing spaces clean, hygienic and disease-free. Food supply is also among the urgent priorities. Ration items are required for needy families as a critical relief measure to address the basic food requirements of the impacted population. The kit will consist of staple items like Rice, Pulses, Salt, Oil, along with Poha and Puffed Rice for ready or quickly prepared servings. The food items will be duly ensured for quality. The aid will consist of Flood Relief and Hygiene Kits for 6,000 needy families

Implementation Plan
The proposed relief initiative will be implemented by Sewa International, which has extensive experience in disaster relief and rehabilitation across India, including floods, earthquakes, and pandemic response. With a strong network of volunteers, field coordinators, and partnerships with local administration, Sewa International will ensure effective last-mile delivery of aid.

1. Assessment & Beneficiary Identification Rapid assessment surveys will be conducted with support from local volunteers, panchayats, and government authorities to finalize the list of most affected areas and households.

2. Procurement & Packaging Bulk procurement will be undertaken from verified suppliers (centrally or locally as per feasibility) to reduce costs. Kits will be standardized, packed, and labelled.

3. Distribution & Monitoring Distribution through relief camps and door-to-door (for inaccessible areas). Images, testimonials and activity report.
Expected Outputs and Outcomes
Estimated No. of Beneficiaries through proposed intervention: Primary (Direct Relief Support) to 25000-30000 plus beneficiaries through Relief and Hygiene kits distribution to 6000 families (considering a 4- to 5-member family size).
Urgent requirements addressed for:
Relief and Hygiene Kits Distribution to 6000 affected needy families, ensuring sanitation and hygiene as well as access to nutritious meals during this critical period. Coverage of 4 severely impacted districts. Providing a sense of relief and comfort to the disaster-impacted population and aiding them to face the crisis better. Community resilience strengthened against future calamities. Filling up the gap of impacted essential services like food supply and provisions etc.
