What is the situation?

The flood situation across Punjab and Himachal Pradesh has turned into one of the most severe monsoon disasters in recent years. Relentless rains have triggered widespread flooding and landslides, submerging entire communities. Families have lost their homes, livelihoods, and—tragically—their loved ones. Local infrastructure and relief systems are overwhelmed, creating a deep humanitarian crisis.

Impact

In Punjab, over 2.56 lakh people across 12 districts are affected. More than 1,044 villages stand inundated, and 96,000+ hectares of farmland have been destroyed, causing massive crop losses. At least 29 lives have been lost, with thousands displaced into relief camps.

In Himachal Pradesh, the destruction has been even more severe—over 300 deaths, 819 roads blocked, 1,280 homes destroyed, and 35,000 livestock lost, with damages estimated at ₹3,560 crore. Essential services like power, water supply, and transport have been crippled.
