When Belgium Breathes Together

Celebrating International Yoga Day with Community and Harmony

Autor: Anand Gopalan

Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self."

— The Bhagavad Gita

In a world that moves faster every day—where screens compete for our attention and daily responsibilities often leave little time for ourselves—yoga offers something simple yet powerful: a moment to pause, a moment to breathe, and a moment to reconnect. This ancient practice, originating in India thousands of years ago, continues to inspire millions around the world by bringing perfect balance between the body, mind, and spirit

On the occasion of International Yoga Day, the Indian community in Belgium came together to celebrate the timeless message of yoga — wellbeing, harmony, and unity. The celebration was organized by IECB (India Education Centre Belgium) in collaboration with Sewa Europe on Sunday, 21 June 2026

Leadership: The session was beautifully conducted by Ruta, Pratap, Snehal, and Anusha, whose dedication and enthusiasm helped make the celebration a deeply meaningful experience for all participants.

Yoga: More Than Exercise

For many, yoga is often seen merely as a series of physical postures. But it goes much deeper. The word Yoga comes from the Sanskrit root yuj, meaning "to unite." It represents the profound connection between body, mind, breath, and inner awareness. Through yoga postures, breathing practices, and meditation, individuals learn to develop flexibility, concentration, calmness, and balance. In today's world of constant digital distractions, yoga provides a vital opportunity to return to the present moment.

A Celebration Beyond Borders

The true beauty of International Yoga Day lies in its ability to bring people together. Participants from different cultures, languages, and generations shared the same space and experienced the same rhythm of breathing and movement. Yoga truly becomes a bridge between communities, reminding us that wellbeing, peace, and harmony are universal values.

Community Spirit and Collaboration

The success of such events stems entirely from the passion and commitment of organizers, volunteers, and participants. The seamless collaboration between IECB and Sewa Europe, along with the incredible efforts of Ruta, Pratap, Snehal, and Anusha, reflects the vital importance of community initiatives. These efforts successfully preserve rich traditions while sharing their positive, universal message with wider society.

The Message of Yoga Day

International Yoga Day is not only about physical fitness. It is a reminder to care for our body, calm our mind, and create harmony within ourselves.

In a world that encourages constant movement, yoga teaches stillness. In a world full of noise, yoga teaches awareness.

Final Reflection

The International Yoga Day celebration in Kortenberg was far more than a wellness session; it was a vibrant celebration of culture, community, and connection. Through the dedicated guidance of Ruta, Pratap, Snehal, and Anusha, participants experienced the true spirit of yoga—bringing people together through balance, peace, and mindfulness.

One breath.

One movement.

One community.

Om Shanti.
