Phase 2 is underway: warmth, food and a way back to school

Dear Sewa Europe Family Members,

On 26 August 2026 (Bhadra 10), flash floods tore through communities along the Trishuli River in Nuwakot, Nepal. Homes, belongings and livelihoods were swept away, and the bridge connecting Devighat to the far bank was destroyed.

Thanks to your support, Sewa International Nepal and its partner organisations have now begun the second phase of relief. Working closely with local ward offices, they are delivering essential household items to affected families and helping displaced students stay in school.

Phase 2 began with blankets for every flood-affected family in Wards 1 and 5 of Bidur Municipality. A further 2,000 blankets were then distributed in Wards 2 and 10 of Bidur Municipality and Ward 8 of Belkotgadhi Municipality, following the beneficiary lists provided by each ward office, so help reaches the families officially identified as affected.

Families waited patiently in the monsoon rain while volunteers handed out blankets and household items directly from the supply trucks. The distribution was attended by Shri Sunil Ambekar ji, Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh, RSS, along with other dignitaries.

Keeping 200 children in school

At Shri Shahid Jagat Prakash Jung Shah Sanskrit Secondary School in Devighat, the flood destroyed the bridge. The school's only link is now a temporary ropeway. Of its 800 students, around 200 live across the Trishuli River, so the school has opened a temporary hostel to keep them learning.

Sewa International Nepal and its partner organisation handed over the first consignment of 21 essential items for the hostel, including food supplies, fuel, vegetables and kitchen utensils.
