PRESS RELEASE
Helsinki, Finland | 29 August 2026
Sewa International Europe expresses its deepest solidarity with the people of Nepal following the devastating flash floods that struck the Bhote Koshi River region on 26 August 2026.
The disaster has caused extensive loss of life, displacement and destruction across affected areas, including Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha and surrounding regions. Roads, bridges, communication networks, homes and essential infrastructure have been severely damaged, making access to several communities extremely difficult.
The Government of Nepal has mobilised its available resources for search, rescue, relief and recovery operations and has made this response a national priority. According to the latest government briefing on 29 August, hundreds of lives have been lost and thousands of people remain unaccounted for, while urgent efforts continue to locate missing persons and assist survivors.

Supporting Nepal's Relief Efforts
Sewa International Europe is working closely with the wider Sewa network to support the humanitarian response and the needs emerging from affected communities.
Our teams and network have been coordinating resources, assessing emerging needs and preparing support for essential relief requirements, including:
Food and drinking water
Medicines and medical supplies
Temporary shelter
Hygiene and essential supplies
Support for children, women, elderly people and vulnerable families
Rehabilitation and recovery assistance as the situation develops
The situation on the ground remains extremely challenging. Damaged roads and bridges have restricted movement into several affected areas, while communication disruptions have made it difficult to establish contact with some communities.
Sewa International Europe is therefore focused on mobilising resources, coordinating support and ensuring that assistance is provided through the appropriate mechanisms as access and official requirements evolve.

Respecting Nepal's Relief Coordination Framework
The Government of Nepal has adopted a one-window/one-door approach for the collection and coordination of disaster relief assistance. The government has appealed to citizens, organisations and institutions to contribute to the Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund and Prime Minister's Relief Fund.
The Government has also asked that financial contributions be made only through officially authorised channels and has warned against unauthorised fundraising or the use of unauthorised accounts and QR codes.
Sewa International Europe fully respects and supports these directives.
We are coordinating our response in accordance with the guidance and procedures established by the Government of Nepal and the relevant authorities. Our objective is to ensure that support reaches those who need it most while maintaining transparency, accountability and compliance with the country's relief coordination mechanisms.
At this critical stage, the priority must remain saving lives, supporting survivors and helping Nepal recover.

A Call to the European Community
This is a time for humanity to come together.
Sewa International Europe appeals to the Indian, Nepali and wider European community to stand with the people of Nepal.
Many families have lost loved ones, homes, livelihoods and access to basic necessities. The immediate emergency will eventually give way to a much longer process of rehabilitation and rebuilding.
The Government of Nepal has itself emphasised that both immediate assistance and long-term rehabilitation will be essential.
We therefore encourage individuals, families, community organisations, businesses and institutions across Europe to extend their support through appropriate and officially authorised channels.

Nepal Needs Us Now
Nepal has faced an extraordinary humanitarian crisis.
In such moments, borders and differences become secondary. What matters is our shared humanity.
Nepal needs you right now.
Your support can help strengthen the humanitarian response and contribute to the long road of relief, recovery and rehabilitation ahead.
We call upon our communities across Europe:
Stand with Nepal.
Support the relief effort.
Help families rebuild their lives.
Let us come together for Nepal.
Sewa International Europe remains committed to serving humanity with compassion, responsibility and integrity and will continue to coordinate its support in accordance with the evolving situation and official guidance.
Donate. Share. Stand Together With Nepal.
